What Does Battle For The Soul Of The Nation Mean
Biden has given fairly few major prime time speeches during his year and a half in the White House, and far fewer media events in general than his predecessor. But as the problems continue to mount for former President Trump, Biden appears emboldened and willing to go on the offensive.
Throughout the primaries held in recent months an astonishing number of GOP victors have supported, or at least refused to discredit, the election fraud lie that continues to be pushed by Trump and his allies.
Despite his removal from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Trump remains the most important figure in the Republican Party and uses his sway to dictate the course taken by the GOP. But asinvestigations into the insurrection, tax fraud, election tampering and the removal of top secret White House documents continue, Trumps position appears weaker than at any point since leaving office.
It is in this context that Biden will give his address, focusing on the battle for the soul of the nation, a phrase Biden first used in 2017 in opposition to Trump.
The White House official said that Biden will decry MAGA as a movement that does not recognize free and fair elections, a movement that increasingly is talking about violence in response to actions that they dont like or dont agree with, which is not the way democracies behave.
However he insisted that it is not a speech about a particular politician, or even about a particular political party.
How About A Candidate For Governor
As for Michigans marquee race this election cycle the race for governor Trump has yet to endorse a candidate for the Republican nomination to take on Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer this fall.
Politically speaking, that makes some sense, given that no front-runner has emerged. But its still entirely possible the former president could make a decision sometime, possibly soon. And whatever his delay, its not for lack of suitors.
At least seven of the candidates seeking the Republican nomination were expected to attend Saturdays rally. That includes former Detroit Police Chief James Craig, Oakland County businessman Perry Johnson, Norton Shores businesswoman Tudor Dixon, Ottawa County real estate agent Ryan Kelley, Oakland County pastor Ralph Rebandt, Livingston County evangelist Bob Scott, and Grand Rapids businesswoman Donna Brandenburg.
As for the others, Kalamazoo chiropractor Garrett Soldano is on a spring break vacation with his two young sons and is unable to attend, and Michigan State Police Capt. Mike Brown, of Stevensville, cited a prior campaign commitment. Grand Haven financial adviser Michael Markey said he also would be on a previously scheduled family vacation Saturday.
Also, as of Friday, Oakland County businessman and former auto dealer Kevin Rinke said he hadnt made a decision as to whether to attend, a spokeswoman said.

Watch: Biden Calls On Voters To Save Democracy From Lies Violence
WASHINGTON Warning that democracy itself is in peril, President Joe Biden called on Americans Wednesday night to use their ballots in next weeks midterm elections to stand up against lies, violence and dangerous ultra MAGA Republicans who are trying to succeed where they failed in subverting the 2020 elections.
Watch Bidens remarks in the player above.
This is no time to stand aside, he declared. The silence is complicity.
After weeks of reassuring talk about Americas economy and inflation, Biden turned to a darker, more urgent message, declaring in the final days of midterm election voting that the nations system of governance is under threat from former President Donald Trumps election-denying lies and the violence Biden said they inspire.
The president, who has been focused on drawing an economic contrast between Democrats and the GOP, shined a spotlight on ultra MAGA Republicans a reference to Trumps Make America Great Again slogan calling them a minority but driving force of the Republican Party.
Pointing in particular to the attack on House Speaker Nancy Pelosis husband, he said that Trumps false claims about a stolen election have fueled the dangerous rise of political violence and voter intimidation over the past two years.
That is the path to chaos in America. Its unprecedented. Its unlawful. And it is un-American.

President Xi Jinping Meets Withus President Joe Biden In Bali
On the afternoon of 14 November local time, President Xi Jinping had a meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden in Bali, Indonesia. The two presidents had a candid and in-depth exchange of views on issues of strategic importance in China-U.S. relations and on major global and regional issues.
President Xi pointed out the current state of China-U.S. relations is not in the fundamental interests of the two countries and peoples, and is not what the international community expects. China and the United States need to have a sense of responsibility for history, for the world and for the people, explore the right way to get along with each other in the new era, put the relationship on the right course, and bring it back to the track of healthy and stable growth to the benefit of the two countries and the world as a whole.
Both presidents viewed the meeting as in-depth, candid and constructive. They instructed their teams to promptly follow up and implement the important common understandings reached between them, and take concrete actions to put China-U.S. relations back on the track of steady development. The two presidents agreed to maintain regular contact.
Ding Xuexiang, Wang Yi and He Lifeng, among others, were present at the meeting.
Apparently People Respond To Ultra
Back in May, Biden unveiled his new label for the hardcore supporters who still look to Donald Trump for leadership: ultra-MAGA Republicans. Its not exactly the most natural sounding of phrases, but that makes sense considering it was essentially grown in a lab.
The Washington Post reported at the time that Biden adviser Anita Dunn had spent six months on a research project with the Center for American Progress Action Fund to see what attacks on Republicans resonated with voters. And it turns out that in battleground areas, more than twice as many voters said they would be less likely to vote for someone called a MAGA Republican than would be more likely, the Post reported.
Bidens speech tonight represents his attempt to center that framing as midterm season kicks into high gear. Its been tough to find polling that has measured how voters have responded to the MAGA Republican push so far. But it feels likely that in the next few days, well see new data released that quantifies whether Americans think the term is a winner this fall or sounds like an awkward and/or try-hard catchphrase.

The Stakes Are Simply Too High For Biden To Be Coy On This Issue
While Biden spent much of his speech railing against MAGA Republicans and positioning them as a major existential threat to Americas political project, he stopped himself from going a step further and, with equal force, calling out the social forces this movement feeds off chiefly, white supremacy.
No matter what the white supremacists and extremists say, I made a bet on you, the American people, and that bet is paying off, Biden said towards the end of his speech, in a coy and singular reference to what ideologically underpins the MAGA movement.
Biden may not have wanted to alienate purple and red Americans who, one would imagine, do not enjoy being identified as racists. But in the absence of identifying the threat of white supremacy, he reinforces fears amongst civil rights activists and progressives that the ideologys pernicious and pervasive effects will prevail. And the stakes are simply too high.
Political violence has always been the answer for white supremacists, as Elie Mystal, justice correspondent at The Nation, noted after the speech.
What Will The President Speak About
The White House noted that Biden will comment on the continued battle for the soul of the nation. No further information about the speechs contents was provided.
According to CBS News, the speech will not center on former President Donald Trump, but it is unclear if Biden will mention his predecessor by name.
This is not a speech about the former president. This is a speech about American democracy, a senior administration official told press Thursday morning, CBS News reports, noting that Biden will speak directly about what his perceived threats to democracy.

Pm: Ali Alexander Cooperated And That Affects Biggs Gosar
Ali Alexander, the architect of the Stop the Steal movement, cooperated with the committee early on, and that could shed light on what more the panel has learned about Arizona Republican Reps. Andy Biggs and Paul Gosar.
Its unclear when Alexanders contributions may come up, but when they do, it could offer some of the most important information the committee gathered involving two of the more controversial members of Congress.
In a since-deleted social media post before the attack on the Capitol, Alexander singled out Biggs and Gosar, along with Rep. Mo Brooks, R-Ala., for helping give his groups effort success.
Alexander called Gosar the movements spirit animal and said he spoke in person to Biggs. A spokesman for Biggs insisted in the days after the riot that Biggs had no direct contact with Alexander, so their interaction remains a point of wide factual dispute.
Alexander also had ties to state Rep. Mark Finchem, R-Oro Valley, and former state Rep. Anthony Kern, R-Glendale, who spoke at Stop the Steal rallies and were at the Capitol on Jan. 6.
Finchem and Kern were mingling with crowds amassed on the Capitol steps, photos, texts and social media accounts show.
Bidens Focus On Semiautomatic Weapons Is Ignorance Manifest
President Biden will deliver his first primetime speech as commander-in-chief Thursday night, marking the one-year anniversary of widespread coronavirus lockdowns across the US, as well as the passage of a $1.9 trillion pandemic relief package.
In his address, Biden is expected to strike a familiar tone on the pandemic, again stressing the need of sacrifice and patience to defeat the virus that has infected nearly 30 million Americans and killed more than 525,000.
While renewing the call for caution, Biden will also likely cheer the continuing national rollout of vaccines which he has said will be available for all adults by May as well as the Wednesday passage of the American Rescue Plan, a 13-figure aid package that includes a round of $1,400 direct aid checks to adults making up to $75,000 annually and couples clearing up to $150,000.

Eisenhowers Atoms For Peace Speech
Date: December 8, 1953
Context: During World War II, Roosevelt formally authorized the Manhattan Project, a top-secret U.S. effort to weaponize nuclear energy. By 1945, America had successfully created the atomic bomb, and President Truman had authorized its detonation in Japans Hiroshima and Nagasaki, leveling the two cities and killing hundreds of thousands of people. Following the end of World War II, political and economic differences between the United States and Soviet Union drove the two countries to another war soon after, but this time, the Soviet Union had their own atomic bomb as well. The world was teetering on a frightening ledge built by access to nuclear power, causing President Eisenhower to launch an emotion management campaign with this speech to the United Nations about the very real risks but also peaceful uses of nuclear energy.

Franklin D Roosevelts Four Freedoms Speech
Date: January 6, 1941
Context: By 1941, many affected by the Great Depression had experienced economic recovery, but another world-changing phenomenon had reared its headHitler and his Nazi regime. World War II was raging in Europe and the Pacific, but the United States had thus far remained largely neutral. In light of the atrocities occurring overseas, Roosevelt sought to change that. He crafted his State of the Union address that January to highlight four freedoms which are deserved by all humans everywhere. The Four Freedoms speech, as it was ultimately known, later became the basis for Americas intervention in World War II and significantly influenced American values, life, and politics moving forward.

Biden Will Ask Americans To Redirect Their Faith In Scotus
MAGA forces are determined to take this country backwards. Backwards to an America where there is no right to choose, no right to privacy, no right to contraception, no right to marry who you love, Biden is set to say tonight, according to excerpts released by the White House.
Biden makes aclear reference to the Supreme Court here, as he offers us a whistle-stop tour of some of the courts most high-profile decisions and what we can expect to come.
In making reference to the Supreme Court and attaching it to threats against Americas democratic principles, Biden suggests Americans can no longer put their faith in the judicial branch because it has been tainted by Trump, who appointed one-third of the court during his term. In order to preserve democracy and prevent this country from returning to the Dark Ages, Biden will make the case that Americans must instead place their trust in the executive and legislative branches, the last defenses against authoritarian and regressive forces.
Biden Teaches Maga Extremists Lessons They Should Have Learned In Kindergarten
Remarkable that a sitting president, in a prime-time address about what it means to be American, had to deliver a set of lessons designed for kindergarten. Effectively, dont be a sore loser, you wont win them all. And control your anger, stop lashing out.
Biden directly connected individual negative feelings and listening to conspiracy theories with a mob launching an insurrection. Biden wrapped this message in facts about rising political violence, election denialism and references to Trumps inauguration speech about American carnage. But ultimately, his message is one of basic self-control, the lessons we expect our children to learn in elementary school, but somehow get abandoned by adults along the way.
Now just waiting for Biden to tell MAGA supporters to take a deep breath and count to four.
