Learn to treat speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication and swallowing disorders in children and adults. The two-year, post baccalaureate program consists of coursework and on-site clinical practica, followed by two semesters of full-time, external internship placements.

The Master of Arts in speech-language pathology is a two year post-baccalaureate program consisting of four semester of didactic coursework and clinical practicum which is at a minimum two semesters of external, full-time clinical placements.

The curriculum is a comprehensive combination of academic and clinical experience designed to prepare you to practice as a professional speech-language pathologist. As a graduate student in the speech-language pathology program, on average, you can expect to accumulate 25 50 ASHA clock hours per semester when assigned to the TTUHSC Speech and Hearing Clinic and 85 clock hours per semester at an externship such as a public school, hospital, early childhood intervention program, rehabilitation facility or home health agency. The course schedule is designed to move each entering class of graduate students through the course sequence at the same time.

The opportunity to pursue a particular area of interest comes with your choice of placement for clinical practicum experiences.

Certification As A Speech

Although specific licensure requirements vary by state, graduation from an accredited program is required for certification as a speech-language pathologist. Certification is granted by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and includes having a passing score on the national Praxis Examination in Speech-Language Pathology.

    The MHSc program educates graduate students to become highly competent entry-level clinicians in the profession of speech-language pathology.     Master Of Arts In Communicative Disorders And Sciences

    The University at Buffalos Master of Arts in Communicative Disorders and Science favors students who have undergraduate training in speech and hearing sciences and accepts applicants without said training after completing pre-professional coursework. Students learn multiple specializations like pervasive developmental disorders in the learning labs and classroom and complete two externships in local facilities.     UConns Master of Arts in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences is a standout because of its rigorous curriculum that covers communication and swallowing disorders, among others. This is a two-year program where students earn 75 credits and benefit from 400 hours of supervised clinical rotations, a significant portion of which must be completed during a single summer semester.

    Undergraduate Communication Sciences and Disorders degree holders must meet the program requirements and can proceed directly with the curriculum upon admission. But applicants without the said degree must enroll in a one-year pre-professional program to meet prerequisites the total time of completion then extends to three years.
