She was shot because she spoke out against the Taliban and how they didnt let girls go to school. Malala was supported by her parents and now by people everywhere. Salaam-Alaikum. Thank you.
Malala Yousafzai: Today it is an honor for me to be speaking again after a long time. Being here with such honorable people is a great moment in my life and its an honor for me that today Im wearing a shawl of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed. I dont know where to begin my speech. I dont know what people would be expecting me to say, but first of all thank you to God for whom we all are equal and thank you to every person who has prayed for my fast recovery and a new life.
Malala Yousafzai: Dear friends, on the 9th of October, 2012, the Taliban shot me on the left side of my forehead. They shot my friends too. They thought that the bullet would silence us, but they failed. And out of that silence came thousands of voices. The terrorists thought that they would change my aims and stop my ambitions, but nothing changed in my life except this: weakness, fear and hopelessness died. Strength, fervor and courage was born.

UNITED NATIONS Malala Yousafzai celebrated her 16th birthday on the world stage at the United Nations, defiantly telling Taliban extremists who tried to end her campaign for girls education in Pakistan with a bullet that the attack gave her new courage and demanding that world leaders provide free education to all children.
Malala was invited Friday to give her first public speech since she was shot in the head on her way back from school in Pakistans Swat Valley last October. She addressed nearly 1,000 young leaders from over 100 countries at the U.N.s first Youth Assembly and she had a message for them too.
Let us pick up our books and our pens. They are our most powerful weapons, Malala urged. One child, one teacher, one book and one pen can change the world. Education is the only solution. Education first.
The U.N. had declared July 12 her 16th birthday Malala Day. But she insisted it was the day of every woman, every boy and every girl who have raised their voice for their rights.
The Taliban, which has long opposed educating girls in Pakistan as well as neighboring Afghanistan, said it targeted Malala because she was campaigning for girls to go to school and promoted Western thinking.
In what some observers saw as another sign of defiance, Malala said the white shawl she was wearing belonged to Pakistans first woman prime minister, Benazir Bhutto, who was assassinated in December 2007 when she returned to run in elections.

Who Is Malala Yousafzai
On July 12, 1997, Malala was born in Mingora, Pakistan. Her father, Ziauddin, ran a girls school and wanted to make sure his daughter received the same education as a boy would. Malala began speaking about education rights in 2008 when she was only 11. Her activism included blogging for the BBC. In 2009, the Taliban shut down schools for girls where Malala lived. Despite the danger, she continued to speak out and became known internationally. In 2011, Archbishop Desmond Tutu nominated her for the International Childrens Peace Prize.
In 2012, a Taliban gunman entered Malalas school bus and shot the 15-year-old in the head. She survived. On her 16th birthday in 2013, while wearing the late Benazir Bhuttos shawl, Malala gave a speech to the United Nations on the topic of youth education. When discussing the Talibans assassination attempt, she said, They thought that the bullets would silence us, but they failed. And out of that silence came thousands of voices. Since her speech, the UN has designated July 12 as Malala Day, though Malala has said: Malala Day is not my day. There are hundreds of human rights activists and social workers who are not only speaking for their rights, but who are struggling to achieve their goal of peace, education and equality. Thousands of people have been killed by the terrorists and millions have been injured. I am just one of them. So here I stand. So here I stand, one girl, among many. I speak not for myself, but so those without a voice can be heard. Those who have fought for their rights. Their right to live in peace. Their right to be treated with dignity. Their right to equality of opportunity. Their right to be educated.
In this passage Malala amplifies her speech. We are not talking rhetorical amplification, rather extending it for other people, like she is their spokeswoman . This not only adds to humility but it moves the speech from subjective to objective. Its not me, its the idea: we are many people. After surviving a cowardly attack on her life by the Taliban, the defiant Malala went on to found her own foundation and speak at the United Nations.
