Difference From English Language
The language we see in ASL is different because first its sign language that has its own words formation, pronunciation, punctuation etc. The expression and sentence structure all differ from.each other. The way they have to communicate through ASL is totally a new perspective. For example someone may raise his voice to emphasize on something while in ASL this is done by bringing different expressions on the face like raising the eyebrow, gesturing fast etc.
Just like different regions have their dialects which slightly makes the spoken words different from each other in the same way for sign language the sign, pronunciation, slangs and the rhythm in which the signs are gestured all starts carrying with regions.
Maybe every word in English dies not have a corresponding sign in ASL. This is where the finger spellings come to play. For each letter in English language there is a corresponding finger spelling. So if they have to tell the name of someone to which there is no sign language they can call it through use of finger spellings.

What Is Baby Sign Language
Baby sign language is a set of simple hand gestures and movements, otherwise known as signs, that correspond to common words you use with baby every day. Its a helpful tool to enhance communication between hearing parents and babies who can hear but cant yet talk. Sometimes the baby signs are the same as those used in American Sign Language , but not always. Baby sign is not a technical sign language, such as ASL or BSL , which are primarily used by the deaf community and are more complex, with grammar and sentence structure, says , CCC-SLP, a certified speech-language pathologist in Wisconsin. Its a looser version that uses just signs for individual words.
Academics began making powerful observations about how hearing families could benefit from using baby sign language around 200 years ago, thanks to the work of linguist William Dwight Whitney in the 1800s. But it wasnt until the 2000s that baby sign language became readily available to parents through workshops, classes and baby sign language books.

An Intro To Asl Grammar Rules
ASL grammar rules may seem intimidating at first, but once you understand the basics, youll be using sign language more fluidly in no time!
First and foremost, a common misconception about ASL is that it is just a signed version of English, word-for-word. This leads to the flawed assumption that ASL and English share similar grammar rules.
However, ASL is a visual language, independent of English, with its own grammar and syntax. If we examine English, we might notice that its structure is very linear and restricted. Each word has its own place in a sentence and the sentence would no longer make sense if you change the order of a verb or adjective.
On the other hand, sign language grammar is much more flexible, allowing for multiple word orders to represent the same concept. For more information, check out the video below:

How And When To Start Baby Sign Language
If youve decided to give baby sign language a go, you may be wondering when to teach baby some signs. A good time to start is when baby is 4 to 6 months old, according to Fujimoto. As for how, there are many different approaches to teaching baby sign language, but generally, you can teach baby by saying a word like milk, while making the sign at the same time, and then giving baby the milk. Dont hold out the item as a prize and refuse to hand it over until your child makes the sign himself, Fujimoto says. Verbal reinforcementby saying the word while also showing the signas well as consistency are key.
As part of the consistency, youll want to use the signs every day for baby to truly understand them. While your little one likely wont start making signs on their own until theyre about 6 to 9 months, eventually baby will start to make connections between the word, sign and item. Just like learning a foreign language, a preverbal baby is going to understand more than they can speakor in this case, signat first.
How To Choose The Right Sign Language

First, a little linguistics to warm us up. Cognates are words in two languages that can share a similar meaning, spelling, pronunciation, linguistic derivation, or root. While all sign languages around the world are different from each other, French Sign Language heavily influenced the indigenous sign language to the US, resulting in ASL.
FSL was brought to the U.S. by Frenchman Laurent Clerc, one of Gallaudet Universitys founders. So, it should come as no surprise that the sign for thank you is the same in both FSL and ASL. In fact, according to Dr. Susan Rutherford , approximately 60 percent of ASL vocabulary can be traced to FSL cognates. But dont get caught up with FSL, at least not yet anyway. Youre here because youre interested in ASL.
Lets start with English, since youre currently reading it. In English, thank you requires two words to make sense, the verb to thank and the object you. However, only one sign is used to say thank you in ASL. In this sign, the object you is already included. This is because the grammar and syntax of English and ASL are different.
In ASL, thank you is signed one-handed , with a flat hand, palm facing towards the face, fingertips starting at the chin, and the hand arcing out from the chin towards the person you are thanking, as shown in the image here:
