You can change the Kindles default language at anytime by tapping the three dots in the upper right corner on the menu bar, then select Settings > Language and Dictionaries.

The extra foreign-language dictionaries are stored in the cloud and will download as soon as your Kindle is connected to Wi-Fi.

The keyboard and dictionary can also change based on the language of the ebook that youre reading.

This simple tutorial will show you how to do it quickly and easily, so you’ll be able to use your tablet again in no time!

Early last year I received a message from a Fire friend. She had a brand new Fire tablet that had been accidentally set up by her husband in Spanish instead of English.

Despite watching YouTube videos, contacting Amazon and trying to compare pages, they had been unable to find a solution. This, of course, left them unable to use their new device!

I sent them a couple of suggestions to fix the problem, which were successful. Then more recently, I received a message from a different visitor to my site who was experiencing exactly the same issue!

So I thought it might be a good idea to publish the solutions here to help anyone this happens to in the future.

Can You Buy Kindle Books Outside Us When Traveling

When I was traveling to another country recently, one question that troubled me as a book nerd was will my Kindle work in another country? Will I be able to buy books when Im in another country or do I need to stock up on my reading material?

You can buy Kindle books on Amazon even when you are located in a different country than the one saved in the Country/Region Settings of your Kindle account. For best results, use a web browser on a computer to purchase the books and then sync the library on your Kindle account.

One thing to keep in mind is that if you may face issues when trying to purchase a book using the store on your Kindle device especially if your Kindle is internet enabled.

You may get an error that the location of your account doesnt match the location of the store. If you face such a situation, it is best to simply change the store country of your account using the steps mentioned above, and try purchasing the book again using a computer instead of Kindle.

Use Kindle Notes To Help You Learn A Language

Why write next to it when you can write within it?

Its always good to take notes while reading a book, especially when learning a new language, but it doesnt always have to be on paper. While reading any Kindle book you can highlight words and sections or even add notes.

Whenever you mark a word, phrase or paragraph, it automatically gets saved on your Kindle device. There are many ways to use this feature for language learning. Here are a few ideas:

    • Build a vocabulary list simply by highlighting words
    • Add notes to words and phrases as reminders for future study
    • Add short summaries to chapters and paragraphs to remember the story

Your highlights and notes are saved in a file called My-Clippings.txt. To access your notes, connect your device to your computer and download the My-Clippings file.

What to do with Kindle highlights and notes?

After downloading your notes and highlights from the device you can go to clippingsconverter.com and convert your notes into Excel or Word format, PDF and even post them to Evernote.

Now you can easily print or edit your notes for further study or exercises. Using words from your list, start building your own sentences in the target language, write them down for memorization practice, run them through a thesaurus, have fun!

Another approach could be to create vocabulary lists from your notes, transfer them into Quizlet and then use the Kindle Flashcard Creator to create a special document format for studying new words back in the Kindle.
