• You need to compare two arguments on the same topic or two similar ideas or themes in different genres or formats.

Eliminate Obviously Wrong Answers

When youve read the question carefully and look at the answers, try to eliminate the answer options that you know are definitely wrong. This way, you can concentrate on a smaller pool of answers to choose from.

If an answer obviously does not refer to whats being asked, you know that answer cannot be correct. Make sure that the answer option you choose is matching the questions context clues. If an answer has absolutes such as never, must, or always, those options are generally incorrect, so start with eliminating those answers as they usually are not correct.

Use More Formal Language

It often happens that test-takers slide into a sort of language use that theyre used to when speaking to or texting with their friends. When writing your essay, make sure to avoid the use of slang or abbreviations.

Your score on the essay part is based on how well you use English language conventions. Its all about grammar, word choice, and sentence structure. Your essay writing must have a formal tone.

How Many Questions Can You Miss On The Language Arts Test

As said earlier, there are around 46 to 53 questions on the GED Language Arts Test covering three main categories: Reading, Writing, and Grammar.

The number of questions that you must answer correctly to attain a passing score will depend on your essay score. The higher your essay score, the fewer correct answers you require, and to compensate for a low essay score, youll have to answer more questions correctly. In general, though, we can say that you need to have between 32 and 42 questions correctly to pass the GED RLA test.

How Many Questions Do I Need To Answer Correctly To Pass The Ged Language Arts

The GED Language Test is 150 minutes long and has about 53 questions from 3 main categories: Grammar, Reading, and Writing.

On the GED Language Art test, you will be required to write an essay. The score of the Language Arts test accounts for 20% of the entire one. The test comprises questions from three categories: Reading , Writing and Grammar .

If the essay section is your strength and you can earn the maximum score, you need to answer 32 questions correctly. If you get zero point in your essay, you need to answer 42 questions correctly.

On the 2014 version of the GED, the Reading and Writing sections are now integrated into a single Reasoning Through Language Arts test. This section of the GED assesses test-takers abilities to read closely, write clearly, and edit according to the rules of standard written English. While the language component tests grammar and mechanics, the reading component measures test-takers abilities to read, comprehend, and interpret passages from various sources, including literature, reviews, and work-related documents. Additionally, there is a writing component, which combines writing and reading, asking test-takers to produce an analysis which draws from a text or texts provided they are given one or more passages and asked to write cohesively about them.

The Language Arts test is 150 minutes long in total, split into three parts, and includes a ten-minute break. The first section is 35 minutes long and tests reading, writing, and language content, and the second section is the extended response, or essay component section, and lasts for 45 minutes. After the break, the last section is given, which, like the first section, tests reading, writing, and language, but lasts for 60 minutes. Throughout the exam, test-takers are given passages to read and questions to answer about them: 75% of these passages are informationalor non-fiction drawn from science, social studies, and business. The remaining 25% of passages are taken from literature.
