So Many Speech Pathology Ceu Option Why Choose Us
You have so many options for SLP CEUs these days and there are some really great researchers and professionals in our field sharing what they know. But we have a very unique approach to providing speech pathology CEUs that has kept people coming back for 20 years.
When we set out to build an ASHA continuing education library, we wanted to solve a big problem we saw for speech therapists:
- Some great researchers put together courses for online slp ceus, but we werent sure how to apply their findings to our caseloads.
- Some great therapists were sharing their ideas, but were they backed up by research?
- Many of the ideas, research findings, and materials presented were awesome, but they didnt work with diverse or bilingual kids.
- SLPS need CEUs for less than what most people were charging.
Its nobodys fault! Clinic and school SLPs are busy and the opportunities to research and present are limited. University researchers sometimes have limited access to subjects to apply their research. But at the end of the day, SLPs still need evidence-based, functional strategies to evaluate and treat.
Thats where we come in.
So our speech pathology CEUs are a good fit for you if you work with diverse kids, if you are a visual learner and want to see how we get the results we do, if you want therapy suggestions backed up by evidence, if you need therapy materials to get started, and if you are limited in time or budget.

Other Ways You Can Find Asha Ceus
- Use ASHA CEFind to search thousands of courses.
- Check out your states speech-language-hearing association.
- Consider taking a certification or training program, such as LSVT LOUD, MDTP, FEES training, etc.
Youre not limited to ASHA-registered courses. You can also participate in other professional development activities that count towards maintaining your CCCs.
If you complete enough ASHA CEUs, you can earn the ACE Award.

Why do we offer free SLP courses for ASHA CEUs?
We are convinced that once you see how easy it is to get needed information, templates, speech therapy training videos, and speech therapy materials, all in 60 minutes, you will consider our other courses. So let me tell you about our free ASHA CEUs, then take a course, and head back into our speech continuing education library to find exactly what you need to help you do your job better today!
Navigating Ethical Predicaments cuts to the heart of some really difficult issues for SLPs. We have an always-increasing amount of work with limited time and resources. Sometimes, despite the best intentions, we are asked to make compromises we may not be comfortable with. Secondly, training programs in our field have not kept pace with the increased diversity of our caseloads. What do we do when we are expected to treat or diagnose a child we might not yet have experience with? This free CEU course begins the conversation to help sort it out.

Are Ceus Different From Pdhs
CEUs are a type of PDHs. ASHA requires 30 Professional Development Hours . ASHA Continuing Education Units will fulfill that because they have already been registered with ASHA. The benefit of going through a CEU provider is that they can submit your participation directly to your CE registry for you.
However, you dont have to use CEUs for your hours. Any other continuing education activity you do will be considered a PDH but ASHA will allow you to get all 30 of your hours as PDH if you prefer. You simply have to check a box that says you did them at the end of your maintenance interval. You also need to hold onto your certificates in case you get audited.
What Counts As A Pdh

This graphic above shows you some examples of the types of professional development activities that ASHA says you can use to count toward your 30-hour requirement. As you can see, ASHA CEUs are one way but not the only way! You can also count the in-services that your employer puts on and any teacher or business workshops that you go to that relate to working with your clients or running your business.
And best of all, it means that you can count the online webinars and courses from The SLP Solution even though were not an ASHA-Approved CE provider! Youll also find that most online courses that ARENT ASHA CEUs are going to be cheaper than true ASHA CEUs. Thats because it costs A LOT of money to keep up with ASHAs standards and procedures.

When Do You Earn Ceus
In order to maintain your ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence, you must earn 3.0 CEUs, which equals 30 hours of professional development hours, every three years. These hours may be earned at any time during your three-year maintenance cycle and can be earned through a variety of ways .*
Many SLP state licenses also require license holders to partake in professional development activities, which may have different names other than continuing education units. They are essentially the same thing, and you can earn hours for state licenses and ASHA CCC together .
*Many states require SLPs to renew their licenses more often than three years . They *usually* do not exceed ASHA requirements but they may need to be completed more regularly throughout the three-year maintenance cycle. For example, Colorado requires 10 hours every year, and Florida requires 20 hours every two years. Therefore, while ASHA may accept 30 hours completed in one year, other states may not.

Invest 3% Of Your Income In Self
I heard Brian Tracy say that successful professionals invest 3% of their net income in their own development. Im no good at math, but I guestimate that a person grossing $50,000 may bring home $35,000. And 3% of that is $1050.
Thats a fair bit of money to invest in yourself every year!
Investing money in your continuing education offers several benefits. Besides the mandatory minimum to maintain your CCCs and your license, you can:
- Gain information, resources, and skills to make your job easier.
- Learn methods to improve outcomes for your patients.
- Advance your skills, so that youre not simply treading water as the years pass.
- Increase your value to employers.
However much time and money you invest in yourself, its important to be mindful in the courses you choose.
- Which areas do you feel weaker in?
- What types of impairments do you frequently run into?
- Which topics are most interesting to you?
- What would make your job easier, if you learned more about it?
You can also check out ASHAs specific strategies to choosing and evaluating CE courses, which I wont summarize here.
Suffice it to say that just because a course is ASHA-registered does not mean that its a good course.
ASHA doesnt officially endorse the content of CE courses. So use your critical evaluation skills!
What Are Continuing Education Units
CEUs are learning hours that can be earned through the completion of various professional development modules. They may also be referred to as professional development hours or certificate maintenance hours.
In a broad sense, CEUs are earned through the completion of courses that provide education about something related to the field of speech-language pathology. These may be podcasts, videos, webinars, or conferences. Some of these courses are as short as 1 hour and cover something very specific, while others are longer and more in-depth. This may be something like the PROMPT or LSVT trainings, which are 10 or more hours each.
Though you can earn CEUs in virtually anything related to the field of speech-language pathology, in order to maintain your ASHA CCC, there are a few specific areas in which you must earn continuing education credits. It is important to periodically review ASHAs guidelines in the event of any changes to membership requirements.
- If your three-year maintenance cycle runs from 2023-2025, you must earn at least two hours in the areas of cultural competency, cultural humility, culturally responsive practice, or diversity, equity, and inclusion .
- If your three-year maintenance cycle runs from 2020-2022, you must earn at least one hour in the area of ethics.
- If you are going to supervise a Clinical Fellow, you must complete at least two hours in the area of supervision after you earn your CCC.

Why Do Clinicians Love Interactive Metronome
Here, at the facility, we usually co-treat patients with PTs and OTs. Once I started implementing the coaching program, not only were patients seeing improvement in their cognitive skills, but in their balance also. The PTs started noticing the additional gains and it has been really successful.

IM is an invaluable therapy tool that can assist all disciples of therapy in so many ways. I cannot say enough about the benefits it brings to a clinical setting and would encourage anyone who works with any array of impairment to look seriously into this amazing therapy tool.

Continuing Education Audit System
The Department selects a random sample of license renewals each month for auditing. If selected for an audit, the licensee will be notified when they receive their renewal notice. The licensee will then be required to submit copies of certificates, transcripts or other documentation to verify the licensees attendance, participation and completion of continuing education requirements. Licenses will not be renewed until continuing education requirements have been met.
