Testscom Ap English Language Exam

This site offers a 38-question AP English Language and Composition practice exam. The questions are somewhat overly basic and passages are not particularly similar in style or content to actual AP Language passages, though. Additionally, the interface is a little bit clunky. I would only use these if you desperately need some extra, very basic rhetorical analysis practice.

How To Make Ap Lang Multiple Choice Less Like Torture

Were sliding into testing season . You dread it. They dread it. Even your #2 pencils dread it they were made for writing, after all, not bubbling.

Students need exposure to the types of questions theyll face, but there are ways to practice that aredare I say itengaging. Heaven forbid they actually learn while practicing.

Heres my favorite, and I can attest to its efficacy: Four or Five Corners

1. Post large letters around the room corresponding to the number of answer choices on the multiple choice practice. So, there will be ABCD or ABCDE taped to the walls and file cabinets.

2. Give students a short set of multiple choice questions that are written in the style of the actual test. These might come from a benchmark, a released exam, or materials created by teacher authors. WARNING: If you choose to purchase multiple choice practice, find out the question-writing experience of the authors. A good question writer understands design, answer order, stem quality, and most importantlyhow to write a FOIL answer. In a five-answer format, there is typically one answer that can be eliminated fairly easily, two answers that a good reader can eliminate, and a foil, that almost-correct choice that trips up our students.

2. Once students have completed the questions, have them all stand in the center of the room.

3. For the first question, each student quickly moves to the letter corresponding with his or her answer choice.

Type : Overall Passage And Author Questions

Overall passage and author questions want you to identify key, overarching elements of the passage or authors views, like the purpose of the text, the authors audience, the authors attitude toward the subject, and so on. These questions are identifiable because they wont refer back to a specific place in the text but will instead ask general questions that apply to the entire excerpt.

These questions can be a little more difficult to answer than those where you can look to a specific place in the text to answer your questions. Youll really need to have an overall impression of the passage based on its overarching details. It might be helpful to jot down a couple overall impressions of the excerpt right after you read it, to refer back to when faced with overall passage questions.

This passage is about the rise of book clubs. The first paragraph gives examples to demonstrate that book clubs have become a popular phenomenon. The second discusses book club backlash and some book club guides. The third paragraph asserts that book clubs are positive and sharing literary experiences is a good thing.

Which of the answers fits with the passage? Answer can be eliminated right away because there is no personal narrative.

Answer can also be eliminated because the passage begins with an example about Oprah, not any empirical data.

Answer can be eliminated because the passage never introduces any questions related to the practice of book clubs.

Peterson’s Ap Practice Tests

A plan costs roughly $50 a month for access to all of Peterson’s resources. For AP English Language, they have two practice tests. I couldn’t find much information or reviews as to the quality of the material, though, so this is a bit of a gamble. You’d likely be better off buying a well-reviewed review book with practice tests.

And Just In Case You Need Them All I Have Bundled These Resources In Several Different Ways And Discounted Those Collections

2022 Live Review 2 | AP English Language | Writing Multiple-Choice Questions

Complete Practice Questions And Take Practice Multiple

To succeed on the multiple-choice section, practice taking multiple-choice questions! This may seem like a no-brainer but its still very important nonetheless. Set aside time to take a sizeable number of practice questions every week.

Keep track of what kinds of questions are easy for youdo you identify the theme every time?and which ones are hardstumped by similes? This will help you figure out if there are any skills or concepts you need to brush up on.

You should also take a complete multiple-choice practice section at least once, twice if you are able. You could do this as part of a complete practice test or do it separately. But taking a multiple-choice section under AP-like conditions will help you feel prepared, calm and collected on test day.

The Ap Lang Multiple Choice Resource Roundup

I have created 13 resources to help AP English Language teachers prepare students for the multiple choice portion of the exam, but I have never written explicitly about them in one post. In a departure from my typical how-to article, this piece is a simple breakdown of the resources I have created for this element of the test. If you want to test drive some of these materials, Ill email you a sampler.

Heres the breakdown:

High School Test Prep Ap Language Practice Tests

Sample Ap English Language And Composition Exam Questions Multiple ...

High School Test Prep offers four short practice tests, each offering questions about a given nonfiction passage. The question style is definitely different from that of true AP questions like the Albert questions below, they are written in a more stylistically simplistic way. Also note that these practice tests haven’t been updated for the current version of the exam.

The ratio of questions about the passage overall versus specific moments in the passage is weighted much more heavily towards overall passage questions than the real AP exam. However, these are still decent rhetorical analysis practice questions, and this resource is an especially good choice if you find yourself struggling with identifying the major themes and arguments of passages overall.

College Countdown Complete Ap Language Practice Test

College Countdown offers a nearly-complete unofficial practice test, essays and all. While the exact wording of the multiple-choice questions isn’t exactly the same as on a real AP exam, the tasks are very similar and the passages are well-selected. The essays are solid examples of the AP essay prompt style, although you could also substitute the unofficial free-response section for an official past free-response question if you wanted to make the experience even closer to a real AP. Also, there are robust answer explanations. This is an especially good resource given that there isn’t an official College Board-released exam for this test.

One of the single most important parts of your college application is what classes you choose to take in high school . Our team of PrepScholar admissions experts have compiled their knowledge into this single guide to planning out your high school course schedule. We’ll advise you on how to balance your schedule between regular and honors/AP/IB courses, how to choose your extracurriculars, and what classes you can’t afford not to take.

Official College Board Practice Free

Released free-response questions from past years are best for practicing specifically for the free-response section in a targeted way. You can work on the prompt types that you find the most difficult or practice outlining essays in a certain amount of time, or writing all three essays in 120 minutes.

If you dont use the Course and Exam Description as a practice test, the multiple choice questions are great targeted practice for the first section of the text. It will help you get familiar with the College Boards question style and work on your rhetorical close-reading.

What Percent Of Ap Lang Is Multiple

There are a total of forty-eight questions you must answer on the AP language exam. This test is divided into two main sections, the multiple-choice question section, and the free-response answer question. In both portions, you will be asked to analyze a passage and write well-detailed pieces.

First, you have sixty seconds to answer forty-five multiple-choice questions on the exam, which means there will be a little more than a minute to answer. So, you should make sure you are adequately prepared for the AP English test. We will describe how to do so below.

In the second portion of the exam, you have one hundred thirty-five seconds or two hours and fifteen minutes to complete this. This means you have large chunks of time about forty-five minutes to answer each question in the section.

To do well on this exam, you will need to be well-written as well as well-read. Since both sections of it will be asking you questions about writing and reading. You will want to practice both well before you take the AP English test.

Both of the sections on the AP language exam carry a different score percentage, so here is what you should focus on and to what degree you should study it:

Unofficial Practice Quizzes And Questions

AP English Language 1991 Multiple Choice Answers and Explanations Passage #1 Brudenells

Unofficial practice quizzes and questions just aren’t going to be as much like the real AP exam as College Board materials. However, while they aren’t as helpful for prepping for the exam format or question styles, they are still good practice for building your rhetorical analysis skills, which is critical for the exam. High-quality unofficial resources are definitely worth your time.

Building rhetorical analysis skills: more complicated than building with blocks.

How Can I Practice Ap Lang Multiple

One of the best ways to become a more efficient studier and a faster test-taker is to use AP language practice tests, especially for the multiple-choice section. There are two main reasons why a practice test is the best way to prepare.

The first part is that you can understand how the skills are broken up on the exam. When taking a practice test, you get a good feel for how many questions focus on the eight skills listed above. Even though the percentages are listed there, it makes it easier to see them rather than just a number.

This makes you more of an efficient studier because you can learn which skills you need to spend more time brushing up on and which ones you need to study more based on which ones appear more on the AP language exam.

An AP lang practice exam can also make you a faster test-taker. Like all standardized tests, the AP lang exam uses a certain language to ask questions. This language can be confusing at times, so it is good that most practice tests are comprised of questions from previous versions of the exam.

This can make you a faster test-taker by helping you understand what a question is asking faster. Once you can do that, you can answer the question faster. This is important since the test is timed and you have just over a minute to answer each of the questions.

The 8 Types Of Multiple

AP English Literature and Composition Exam Practice

As you might expect, reading comprehension questions are about testing if you understood the passage on a concrete level: what does this particular sentence mean in a literal sense You can usually identify them from phrases like according to and refers.

To succeed on these kinds of questions, your best strategy is to go back and re-read the part of the passage the question is asking about. Do so carefully, and when you then answer the question, focus on what the passage is actually saying outright. Dont infer on reading comprehension questions!
