About The Asha Convention
The ASHA Convention is the premier annual professional development and networking event for speech-language pathologists, audiologists, and speech, language, and hearing scientists. Plan to join your peers for the 2022 ASHA Convention, November 1719, 2022 a the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The ASHA Convention is returning as a hybrid in-person/virtual event this year. The in-person event, taking place in New Orleans, will once again be paired with the Virtual Library of pre-recorded sessions. The Virtual Library will be open for an extended period, from November 1028, to allow more time for registrants to watch sessions and earn CE credit.
Three Honored By American Speech
Three faculty members in the Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences were honored at the 2021 American Speech-Language Hearing Association convention for their contributions to the professions of speech-language pathology, audiology and speech and hearing science.
I could not be prouder that ASHA has recognized the important contributions that these faculty have had on our professions. Their accomplishments in teaching, research and service are truly exemplary, said Anne Marie Tharpe, PhD, chair of the Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences and associate director of the
Vanderbilt Bill Wilkerson Center.
Stephen Camarata, PhD, professor of Hearing and Speech Sciences, received the highest honor that ASHA bestows the Honors of the Association for his significant work in the practice of speech-language pathology.
Camarata is an internationally recognized expert in phonology and articulation, language interventions and speech-language difficulties in children with autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome and hearing loss. Much of his work has focused on developmental language disorders.
In addition to his many contributions to speech-language research, Camarata is also a noted teacher, mentor and volunteer. His contributions in the area of developmental child language have altered and accelerated the course of treatment and improved the quality of care for children with communication disorders.
Twentieth Century To Today
The newly opened railroad provided service from Georgetown to Rockville, connecting Rockville to Washington, D.C., by trolley. Bomb shelters were built, including the largest one at and 15 other locations. The I-270 highway was designated as an emergency aircraft landing strip. Two missile launcher sites were located on Muddy Branch and Snouffer School Roads until the mid-1970s.:163

Council For Academic Accreditation
The Council for Academic Accreditation in Audiology and SpeechLanguage Pathology is the accreditation unit of the ASHA. Founded over 100 years ago by American universities and secondary schools, CAA established standards for graduate program accreditation that meet entry-level preparation in the speech and hearing field. Accreditation is available for graduate programs with a master’s degree in SpeechLanguage Pathology or clinical doctoral program in audiology.
